Carbon Reduction Plan

In December 2022, Acorn Training committed to support the Government’s target to be net zero greenhouse emissions by 2050. In response, Acorn Training undertook a benchmark exercise for the financial period 2021-2022. The benchmark identified the following:

This represents 18.3 tonnes of CO2e for every £1,000,000 in turnover.

We have included commuting in our Scope 3 Emission Type and have calculated this using 80 staff × 46 weeks × 5 days × 10 miles × emission. One of our major actions for 2022-2023 is to improve our grey fleet data collection, including travel to work commute data benchmarking.

A further weakness identified was the review of utility provider offset information, which will require a more in-depth review of utility provider contracts.

This action plan focuses on a short period of December 2022 – September 2023 to align our starting point with our commitment to report on our greenhouse gas emissions within 6 months of our financial year end.

Acorn Training has committed to the following actions:

Set up a social value steering group with a sub-group focusing specifically on CO2e

Identify a robust process for identifying commute CO2e for the 2023-2024 recording year to improve accuracy of grey fleet information

Produce a detailed action plan to reduce CO2e by 10% each year for the next 10 years to achieve net zero CO2e by 2032; achieve by three approaches; energy efficiency, strategic and operational planning and off-setting

Identify an organisation senior lead for our strategy to reduce CO2e

Review our accommodation strategy to identify quick wins to reduce CO2e within existing estate and implement an estate implementation policy for new sites.
