Acorn Training announces new partnership with Cognassist to tailor its training delivery to individual learner needs

(Wednesday 20 October 2021) Today, Acorn Training announces its commitment to the individual training needs of its almost 700 learners with the introduction of innovative technology through a new partnership with Cognassist.

Cognassist uses award-winning cognitive science technology to identifying individual learning needs through a 30 minute digital cognitive assessment. With this newly-formed partnership, Acorn Training champions neurodiversity and will use the digital cognitive assessment of learners to be better equipped to provide reasonable adjustments based on different learning needs. This tailoring of the training delivery will support learners all the way through to end-point assessment.

This partnership also enables Acorn Training to further demonstrate their proactive approach to diversity and inclusivity following achievements earlier this year at the World Skills UK Diversity & Inclusion Heroes Awards. The company won two of the five awards; named as Network of the Year and Managing Director, Gareth Fallows, winning the prestigious Role Model Award. The benefits of Cognassist supports this approach further by ensuring Acorn Training’s Apprenticeship programmes are bespoke to each individual through the identifying hidden learning needs, personalising learner support and improving learner attainment.

Commenting on the partnership, Siobhan Clegg, Assistant Director of Workplace Skills, said “We are committed to delivering high-quality apprenticeship programmes and our learners are at the heart of everything that we do. Our talented team of trainer assessors and tutors ensure that they are well-equipped with the skills and knowledge that they need to deliver bespoke training and our partnership with Cognassist will only strengthen this further. We are delighted to bring their innovative technology into the business, enabling us to ensure every learner’s success.”

Chris Quickfall, CEO of Cognassist, comments “Last year, we uncovered the extent of neurodiversity among apprentices across the UK; 1 in 3 learners have a learning difficulty, many of which can be hidden and remain undiagnosed. I see cognitive differences as superpowers – as long as they are addressed and identified properly. With the right strategies in place, thinking and learning differently from other people can be an extremely powerful thing. The work that Acorn Training and Cognassist are doing together really demonstrates that with the correct tools in place, educators can get the best out of each brain by understanding what works best for each individual. Everyone can benefit from learning more about their own brain and should be empowered with enough support to achieve a fulfilling, successful career.”
